21st Century Voting Rights Act???
Thursday, June 27, 2013
Could you imagine after sixty years, changing something that effected the lives of many Americans across the country? According to the Washington Post, the Supreme Court has requested that the Legislative and Executive branches of government fester up a guarantee of racial equality, in relations to the landmark 1965 Voting Rights Act. The Supreme Court feels like the provisions that are in place now, do not meet the needs of the American people in today’s world. My question is why now does the Supreme Court feel it necessary to change the provisions after so long. If changing the provisions will in fact improve the lives of the American citizen I beleive that it is imparative to update the Voting Rights Act. After all every American citizen is looked at as being equal to one another, and we deserve nothing less than to be treated equally. Government officials need to consider what is best for the people as a whole.http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/supreme-court-stops-use-of-key-part-of-voting-rights-act/2013/06/25/26888528-dda5-11e2-b197-f248b21f94c4_story.html
